The mission of the Campus Safety Commission is to provide a collaborative community to address the diverse safety and security needs, situations, practices, policies, and procedures of each of the 28 community and state colleges in Florida. WHAT WE DOThe Campus Safety Commission was created to provide a collaborative community in which all 28 state-assisted colleges in Florida could discuss and learn from each other’s diverse safety and security needs, situations, practices, policies, and procedures.
WELCOME - A Message from the 2023 ChairDr. Germany Dixon As the current Chair of the Campus Safety Commission for the AFC, I am excited about this opportunity to serve our membership in 2024 and I welcome you to our commission. This past year offered an opportunity to reignite the commission and entered a new threshold of renewed energy. As we begin to transition forward this year, it is important, to begin with, a renewed energy to proceed with Great Expectations. I am extremely optimistic about the potential opportunities to provide progressive knowledge and resources to support the diverse safety and security needs of each of the 28 community and state colleges in Florida. We are currently at a pivotal point within our commission which provides us the ability to rise to the next level in providing consistent trainings, webinars, and looking at the significance of providing a comprehensive campus safety overall presence. This commission will be focused on working with our campus safety leaders with the intent of sharing their experiences of lessons learned, best practices, and ensuring that we work collectively as a unified team. Also, it is important to provide an atmosphere dedicated to providing excellent opportunities for professional development, while exploring the safety challenges that each of you have navigated through these past years. This will offer us as a commission the ability to engage, learn and share valuable aspects of change among our partnering institutions. We will provide access to professional networking sessions with the ultimate benefit of connecting with fellow peers dedicated to the purpose of growth and development. I would also like to solicit your assistance and support in promoting the membership of the AFC, and participation in our great Campus Safety Commission. Please mark your calendars and prepare to attend this year’s, Campus Safety & Resilience Symposium. It will be held May 29-30, 2024, at Daytona State College – Hosseini Center located at 1200 W International Speedway. Daytona Beach, FL 32114.
In closing, “Excellence is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives – choice, not chance, determines your destiny.” -Aristotle
